Voter Registration and Making it Easier to Vote

Many states including Ohio, Wisconsin and North Carolina have been chipping away at voting rights making it more difficult to register and vote, shrinking voting hours, limiting early voting and eliminating polling locations. Strict voter ID laws that make it harder for elderly, minority, young and urban voters to cast a ballot are also being enacted across the nation.

Election administration should not be a partisan issue – it’s about democracy.

Many groups are working to support voting rights and make it easier for people to register and vote including online and same day registration. We join these efforts and will work to promote greater voter turnout especially by young voters, Latinos and Independents.

Even in states that currently do have open primaries these groups of voters often don’t show up to vote. Educating them about how important it is to make their voices heard and mobilizing them to cast a ballot will be a significant part of this effort.
